Lagos police announce movement restrictions for LG election

The Lagos State Police Command has announced a total restriction of vehicular movement across the state from 3:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 12, 2025, to ensure a peaceful and secure atmosphere for the Local Government Elections.
Command said on Wednesday that the restriction applied to all roads and waterways within Lagos State jurisdiction. And it would begin in the early hours of the day.
In a statement, the command said the “total restriction of vehicular movement throughout Lagos State will be from 3 am on Saturday, 12th July, 2025 till 3 pm of the same Saturday, 12th July, 2025”.
“The restriction of vehicular movement will apply to all roads and waterways within Lagos State jurisdiction. ”
However, some sets of persons were excluded from the restriction on movement.
The police said, “Essential services such as those on medical emergency, and other emergency responders and their workers, the duly accredited officials of the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC), and accredited election observers and media practitioners on election coverage accredited by the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC).
“All the security agencies personnel and other stakeholders, including the media and election observers accredited by LASEIC for the election, will be in possession of and wear their identification tags certified by LASEIC throughout the election.”
The statement also said that no police escorts or armed security aides would be allowed to accompany principals to polling units or collation centers.
”Use of sirens and covered number plates is prohibited near polling units and collation centers
”Police and other security agencies will maintain a presence at polling units and collation centers to prevent disruptions and ensure safety
