Atiku’s PDP exit won’t affect party, – Gov. Makinde

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has said that the exit of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will not have any significant impact on the party.
Governor Makinde made the remark during an interview with newsmen on Wednesday in Akure, Ondo State.
The governor who emphasised that individuals’ decisions to leave or join the party would not affect its overall structure or performance, noted that PDP is an institution with freedom of entrance and exit.
Makinde also downplayed the potential threat of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to PDP, describing it as just another political party contesting in elections.
Earlier in his speech, he highlighted the importance of traditional institutions in nation-building, describing them as enduring pillars of identity, legitimacy, and communal cohesion.
The governor emphasised that traditional rulers have played a significant role in dispensing justice, upholding values, and keeping communities united.
He also noted that strengthening traditional institutions was not just about cultural preservation but strategic governance.
Makinde shared his experience of integrating traditional institutions into governance in Oyo State, which he said has resulted in great success.
He emphasised that nation-building is not just about oil production but about the strength of institutions, their ability to serve the people justly, and the legacy they leave behind.
On his part, the Deji of Akure, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi, appreciated Governor Makinde’s recognition of the importance of traditional institutions in nation-building.
The traditional ruler emphasised the need for the country’s constitution to strengthen traditional institutions and commended the state government and sons and daughters of Akure for their support to the Deji palace.
