Super Falcons Soar to Semis: 5-0 thrash Zambia

The Super Falcons of Nigeria have qualified for the semi-finals of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) after a resounding 5-0 victory over Zambia in Casablanca.
The match, played at the Stade Larbi Zaouli, saw Nigeria dominate from start to finish, with goals from Osinachi Ohale.
Scored in the 2nd minute with a header from a cross, giving Nigeria an early lead.
Esther Okoronkwo doubled Nigeria’s lead in the 26th minute with a composed finish.
Chinwendu Ihezuo made it 3-0 in the 45th minute with a perfectly placed shot into the left-hand side of the goal post.
Oluwatosin Demehin headed in Nigeria’s fourth goal in the 68th minute from a pinpoint cross.
Folashade Ijamilusi sealed the win with a neat finish in the 91st minute, tapping in a cross from Captain Rasheedat Ajibade
The victory marked a record 13th semi-final appearance for the Super Falcons in the WAFCON competition.
Notably, Nigeria have not conceded a single goal in their last four matches in the tournament.
Zambia’s star players, Barbra Banda and Racheal Kundananji, were neutralised by Nigeria’s disciplined defense, failing to register a shot on target throughout the match.
The win also highlighted Nigeria’s dominance over Zambia, with the Super Falcons having defeated them in three of their last four meetings, scoring 16 goals and conceding just once.
Nigeria will now await the winner of the South Africa versus Senegal clash in the semi-finals.
