FAO appoints Gadain as representative to Nigeria and ECOWAS

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations has appointed Dr. Hussein Gadain as its new Representative to Nigeria and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
The appointment was announced in a statement issued by FAO Communication Specialists, Mr. David Tsokar and Mr. Kelvin Nwachukwu.
Dr. Gadain brings over 30 years of experience in natural resource management, food security, and agricultural development across Africa and the Middle East.
Before his appointment in Nigeria, he served as FAO Representative in Yemen, where he led one of FAO’s largest emergency programs, providing critical interventions for food system recovery and resilience building.
As the FAO Representative to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Dr. Gadain will oversee FAO’s strategic engagement with the Nigerian government, development partners, and key stakeholders.
He will lead the implementation of the FAO Country Programming Framework (CPF) 2023-2027, which prioritizes sustainable agriculture, climate resilience, nutrition, and inclusive rural development.
Gadain expressed his honor and commitment to serving the people and government of Nigeria. He stated, “Nigeria is a country of immense potential and complexity.

His experience and expertise will be crucial in supporting Nigeria’s efforts to achieve sustainable agricultural development and food security.
