Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan barred from senate chambers despite court ruling

The Senate spokesman, Senator Yemi Adaramodu, has clarified that Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan from Kogi Central remained suspended until the Senate resumes from recess in two months’ time.
Senator Adaramodu made this statement on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme, on Tuesday just hours after the Senate barred the suspended lawmaker from resuming her legislative duties at the National Assembly in Abuja.
Akpoti-Uduaghan was suspended in March 2025 for violating Senate rules.
The suspension followed a seat arrangement brawl with Senate President Godswill Akpabio, whom she accused of sexual misconduct. Akpabio denied the allegations.
Despite her suspension, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan attempted to resume her duties on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, relying on a recent judgment delivered by Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court, Abuja.
The senate, however barred her from participating in Senate proceedings.
The senate’s decision to bar Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan from resuming her duties highlighted the chamber’s commitment to upholding its rules and procedures.
The suspension also underscores the ongoing tensions between Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan and Senate President Akpabio.
