Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun and the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have formally declared their support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
The announcement was made on Tuesday by Governor Adeleke via a statement on his official X handle, following a strategic meeting with the PDP leadership caucus in Osogbo.
The endorsement came after weeks of consultations with stakeholders across Osun State, including traditional rulers, civil servants, market leaders, and grassroots party members.
The governor emphasised that he remained committed to the PDP, the party that provided him the platform to serve the people of Osun.
He also revealed that he has been unanimously endorsed by the Osun PDP for a second term in 2026.
Adeleke reaffirmed his loyalty to the PDP, stating, “I remain in the PDP, the party that gave me the platform to serve the good people of Osun.”
”The Osun PDP has endorsed President Tinubu for re-election in 2027, recognizing him as a proud son of Osun State.”
 Adeleke emphasised that the PDP remained the most popular and trusted party in Osun State.
He pledged to continue delivering on his administration’s Five-Point Agenda with renewed focus and dedication.
The announcement follows months of speculation about Governor Adeleke’s political future, with rumours suggesting he might defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC), President Tinubu’s party.
These rumours intensified after Adeleke’s private visit to President Tinubu in Lagos on June 3, accompanied by his brother and nephew, Davido.
Adeleke however has consistently denied any intention of defecting, reaffirming his loyalty to the PDP in statements made in May and July.
Former APC National Secretary Senator Iyiola Omisore reignited the conversation about Adeleke’s potential defection, describing him as a “political orphan” allegedly seeking to join the ruling party.
Omisore dismissed claims that the governor was being courted by the APC, despite his meetings with Tinubu and key APC figures.
The endorsement of President Tinubu by Governor Adeleke and the Osun PDP marked a significant development in Nigerian politics, highlighting the complex dynamics of political alliances and rivalries in the country.
As Adeleke focused on delivering good governance and fulfilling his administration’s agenda, the political landscape in Osun State and beyond will likely continue to evolve.
