Barcelona goalkeeper Ter Stegen to undergo surgery

Barcelona’s goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen has announced that he’ll undergo back surgery to address a long-term problem, sidelining him for approximately three months.
Ter Stegen shared the news on Instagram, saying that despite feeling physically and athletically fit, he’s been experiencing pain.
Ter Stegen will undergo back surgery to address the issue.
Doctors estimated a three-month recovery period, a precaution to avoid potential risks.
After his last back operation, Ter Stegen returned to the pitch after 66 days; however, this time, the doctors believed a longer recovery period was necessary.
Barcelona signed Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia this summer, and he’s expected to become the team’s first choice.
The Polish goalkeeper will likely serve as backup to Garcia.
Spanish media reported that Barcelona hoped to sell Ter Stegen to help register new signings Garcia and Marcus Rashford.
However, Ter Stegen’s surgery and recovery timeline might affect these plans.
Ter Stegen expressed the emotional difficulty of being unable to support his team during this time.
He emphasised that the rehabilitation process is manageable, and he’s confident about his return.
Ter Stegen aimed to regain his fitness and compete for the No. 1 shirt, potentially impacting his chances of being Germany’s goalkeeper at the World Cup next summer.
