Damagum expresses confidence in PDP’s structure

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed confidence in its structure and legacy, saying that it will not lose sleep over a recent coalition formed by defecting members and other parties.
PDP Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, made this assertion at the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on Thursday in Abuja.
Damagum described the coalition as “nothing to lose sleep over,” emphasizing the party’s strength and national acceptability.
He noted that many members who defected to the coalition have already returned to the party, with some claiming they never left and merely attended a meeting.
Damagum’s sentiments were echoed by the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Governor Bala Mohammed, who stated that the party’s door remained open for defecting members to return.
Damagum asserted that the PDP is the only party ready to take back power in 2027, citing its structure, national acceptability, and legacy.
He emphasised the party’s capacity for nation-building, highlighting its potential to bear the weight of great nation-building.
Meanwhile, Governor Mohammed expressed sympathy for those who left the party due to impatience, urging them to return before a certain time limit.
He stressed that the party would not condone indiscipline, which he believes led to the current challenges.
Mohammed commended members of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) for showing magnanimity by agreeing to step down before the end of their tenure.
