Onyeka Onwenu’s son marks 1-year mother’s passing with emotional post

Tijani Onwenu, the son of the late Nigerian music icon Onyeka Onwenu, has paid a heartfelt tribute to his mother on the first anniversary of her passing.
Onyeka Onwenu, fondly known as the “Elegant Stallion,” died on July 30, 2024, at the age of 72, after collapsing during an event in Lagos.
In an Instagram post, Tijani wrote, “A year ago, today. RIP mum. July 30, 2024,” reflecting on the loss of his beloved mother.
Onyeka Onwenu was laid to rest on August 30, 2024, in a private ceremony at Ebony Vaults and Gardens, Ikoyi, Lagos, following a funeral service at the Fountain of Life Church, Ilupeju.
Onyeka Onwenu was a multitalented figure, renowned for her contributions to music, film, broadcasting, politics, and activism. Some of her notable achievements including music career.
Also a strong advocate for women’s rights and social justice, serving as Chairperson of the Imo State Council for Arts and Culture and Director-General of the National Centre for Women Development.
She was also awarded the National Honours of Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR) in 2011.
Onyeka Onwenu’s passing drew tributes from prominent figures across the entertainment industry, politics, and wider society. Her legacy continues to inspire and influence new generations of artists and activists.
