PDP warns members against endorsing Tinubu for 2027, threatens sanctions

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Friday warned its members against endorsing President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, citing anti-party activities that could lead to division and diminish the party’s electoral fortune.
This is contained in a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba.
The PDP’s NWC expressed dismay over public declarations of support for Tinubu by some prominent members, including the FCT Minister, Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose and Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke among others.
PDP’s NWC said, “In the light of the foregoing and the instancy of protecting and preserving the existence of our Party and its electoral fortune, the NWC, pursuant to the provisions of Section 59 (1) of the PDP Constitution hereby issues a strong reprimand against such anti-party activities and cautions those involved to retrace their steps or face stiffer sanctions as provided in the PDP Constitution,”.
They cautioned members to retrace their steps or face stiffer sanctions, as outlined in the party’s constitution.
The committee cited section 10(6) of the PDP constitution which prohibits members from aligning with other parties or groups to undermine the party or its elected officials.
The PDP also described the endorsements as anti-party activities that threaten the stability and sustenance of the party.
The party further urged its members to remain loyal and focused, working towards the successful conduct of the PDP National Convention scheduled for November 15-16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Hensard Times recalls that former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose endorsed Tinubu’s re-election bid and also supported Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji for a second term.
Also, the Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke and the PDP in the state declared support for Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, just the Ogun State chapter of the party recently threw its weight behind Tinubu’s re-election.
