IGP orders probe into KWAM 1’s alleged misconduct at Abuja airport

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has returned the petition against Fuji singer Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as Kwam 1, to the Police Command at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
The Force spokesman, Muyiwa Adejobi, in a statement on Tuesday, confirmed the receipt of the petition against the singer who tried to block a moving ValueJet aircraft on August 5, 2025, at the Abuja airport.
The development comes after Kwam 1’s controversial incident on August 5, 2025, where he allegedly tried to block a moving ValueJet aircraft.
Kwam 1’s actions at the Abuja airport sparked widespread condemnation, with many calling for his arrest and prosecution.
According to reports, the singer attempted to board a ValueJet flight with a liquid-filled flask, which was suspected to contain alcohol, despite knowing it exceeded the allowable limit.
When airport security personnel denied him boarding, Kwam 1 allegedly spilled the liquid on security staff and proceeded to the tarmac, obstructing the aircraft from taxiing.
The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) swiftly responded to the incident, imposing a six-month ban on Kwam 1 from accessing airport facilities across Nigeria.
The ban prohibited the musician from boarding any commercial flights within or outside the country.
Reacting, the Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo described Kwam 1’s actions as “unacceptable and reprehensible,” emphasising that such behaviour posed a significant risk to passengers and airport operations.
Kwam 1’s case has raised concerns about selective justice, particularly with the recent remand of an unruly Ibom Air passenger, Comfort Emmanson, in a Lagos prison.
Many are calling for Kwam 1’s prosecution, citing the severity of his actions.
The NCAA clarified that the difference in treatment between Kwam 1 and Emmanson lied in the fact that ValueJet did not press charges against the singer, whereas Ibom Air took immediate action against Emmanson.
The police have pledged to investigate the Kwam 1 incident thoroughly and ensure justice was served accordingly.
The NCAA’s petition against Kwam 1 has been returned to the airport police command for further action.
As the investigation unfolds, aviation stakeholders and the public are closely watching to see how this high-profile case will be resolved.
