Comfort Emmanson freed after court strikes out case

Comfort Emmanson, the Ibom Air passenger involved in an altercation on a flight from Uyo to Lagos, has been released from the Kirikiri Correctional Centre.
Her release came after the withdrawal of charges against her, following interventions from key stakeholders in the aviation sector.
Emmanson was discharged by Magistrate Olanrewaju Salami on Wednesday after the five counts against her were struck out.
The Lagos Airport Police Command withdrew the charges, citing new evidence and Emmanson’s expressed remorse.
The Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) agreed to lift the lifetime flying ban imposed on Emmanson after Minister of Aviation Festus Keyamo’s intervention.
Keyamo confirmed Emmanson’s release, saying that she had shown remorse for her actions and that stakeholders had reached a resolution to drop the case.
Emmanson was accused of assaulting a flight attendant and being confrontational with security agents at the Lagos airport on August 10, 2025.
The incident sparked public outrage, with many criticising the handling of the case as unfair.
Keyamo condemned Emmanson’s actions but also criticised the circulation of a viral video showing her partially exposed.
Emmanson thanked supporters for their prayers and concern, expressing pain over her treatment.
She planned to share her full account after rest and medical care.
The case has prompted discussions about passenger conduct, airline policies, and conflict resolution mechanisms in Nigeria’s aviation sector.
