NBA resident calls for retraining of Ibom Air crew members

The President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Afam Osigwe, has advocated for the retraining of Ibom Air’s crew members.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily programme on Thursday, Osigwe emphasised the need for a meeting to discuss crew member etiquette and airline ban procedures, ensuring they were carried out legally and civilly.
The NBA President faulted the actions of the airline staff who filmed the passenger’s behaviour, exposing her nudity and subjecting her to public ridicule.
Osigwe stressed that crew members required education, examination, and necessary training and retraining to handle such situations better.
He  also noted that the crew’s conduct, language, tone, and approach were unnecessary and that they should be able to de-escalate situations by ignoring certain incidents.
Osigwe further highlighted that passengers needed to understand the legal obligations associated with flying on an aircraft.
“Everyone on the aircraft has a responsibility to ensure orderly conduct and behaviour,” he added.
This, according to him, would prevent future conflicts, retain passenger dignity, and preserve the reputation of the airline industry and Nigerians.
Referencing the case of Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as Kwam 1, Osigwe pointed out that his actions seemed to pose a threat to airline passengers.
However, in the Ibom Air passenger’s case, she was given a ban, which has since been renounced.
The NBA President’s call for retraining of Ibom Air crew members comes as a significant step towards improving airline passenger experiences and ensuring that both crew members and passengers understand their responsibilities and obligations.
