Bayelsa Govt. reaffirms commitment to fund all projects

The Bayelsa State Government has reiterated its commitment to fulfilling its financial obligations on all ongoing projects in the state.
The assurance was made by the Commissioner for Information, Orientation, and Strategy, Mrs. Ebiuwou Koku-Obiyai, during a transparency briefing held in Yenagoa on Friday, August 15, 2025, covering the months of May, June, and July.
She noted that the state government was dedicated to completing all projects initiated across the state, reflecting Governor Douye Diri’s administration’s intention and hope for the state’s development.
According to her, “This is a tradition in the state that we have institutionalised to explain to the public on all income and expenditures. This policy philosophy is the explanation behind the rigorous ongoing projects you see across the state.
“This is because it is the Gov. Douye Diri administration’s intention and hope that all these projects will be completed,” she stated.
The commissioner tasked journalists present on balancing their reportage, stating that they were partners in the progress and development of the state.
Koku-Obiyai, lauded the journalists in promoting the policies and programmes of the state government.
She, however, urged them not compromise the ethics of their profession, even as 2027 drew closer.
Hensard Times reports that the briefing is part of a tradition institutionalised by the state to explain income and expenditures to the public, showcasing the government’s commitment to transparency and accountability.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Treasury, Revenues, and Accounts, Mr. Timipre Seipulou, emphasised that Bayelsa is financially balanced to ensure the completion of all ongoing projects before the end of Governor Diri’s administration.
In line with this commitment, Governor Diri presented a budget of N689.440 billion for the 2025 fiscal year, christened the “Budget of Assured Prosperity.” With key allocations including works and infrastructure by earmarking N178.761 billion for road construction and infrastructure development.
The sum of N47.111 billion was earmarked to support educational development in the state.
Sports had N37.850 billion, which includes the construction of a new stadium, health has a total of N19.994 billion to enhance healthcare services among others.
