Dangote group pledges support to Nigerian lady after truck accident

The Dangote Group has taken responsibility for a recent truck accident involving one of its vehicles that left Ruth Otabor, sister of Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner Josephina “Phyna” Otabor, seriously injured.
The accident occurred near Auchi Polytechnic in Edo State, resulting in severe injuries, including the amputation of one leg, with the other leg also at risk, as well as injuries to her head and hand.
Phyna expressed her frustration and disappointment with the company’s response on Instagram, questioning why the truck’s plate number was removed and criticising the company’s priorities.
She emphasised that her sister’s well-being should be the top priority, rather than dealing with the police and potential cover-ups.
In response, the Dangote Group released a statement assuring full support and compensation for Ruth Otabor.
Senior officials from Dangote Cement Plc, along with the insurance team, promptly visited the accident scene, engaged with law enforcement authorities, and met with Otabor and her family at Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital.
The company emphasised its commitment to the well-being of those affected and pledged to provide full support for Otabor’s medical treatment and recoveryas well as fair compensation in line with Dangote Group’s welfare policy.
The company also expressed its thoughts and well-wishes for Otabor’s speedy recovery, releasing a photo of its representatives meeting with Otabor’s husband at the hospital.
Meanwhile, the Edo State Police Command confirmed that the truck driver, alleged to be underage and unlicensed, has been charged to court and pleaded guilty to three of the four counts against him.
The case has been adjourned to August 21.
