Premier League 2025/2026: Liverpool starts strong with 4-2 win

Liverpool secured a thrilling 4-2 win over Bournemouth in their Premier League opener on Friday, August 15, 2025, at Anfield Stadium.
The match was marked by intense emotions as the Reds paid tribute to their late player Diogo Jota, who tragically lost his life in a car accident last month.
Hugo Ekitike and Cody Gakpo scored for Liverpool in the first half, giving them a 2-0 lead.
However, Bournemouth fought back, with Antoine Semenyo scoring twice to level the game at 2-2.
Federico Chiesa and Mohamed Salah scored crucial late goals for Liverpool, with Chiesa netting in the 89th minute and Salah sealing the win in stoppage time.
The match was paused for a minute’s silence to honour Diogo Jota’s memory, during which fans held up a giant mosaic with Jota’s initials and shirt number.
Salah broke down in tears after the final whistle as fans chanted Jota’s name.
Antoine Semenyo reported an incident of racial abuse from a Liverpool fan, who was subsequently removed from the stands by police.
Marcos Senesi escaped a red card for handball in the penalty area, with VAR deciding not to intervene.
Liverpool’s new signings, including Ekitike, Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez, and Jeremie Frimpong, made their competitive debuts for the Reds.
Liverpool are reportedly linked with a British transfer record move for Newcastle’s Alexander Isak and are also interested in Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi
