Trump pushes for peace deal in Ukraine after Alaska summit

Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin met in Alaska to discuss a potential ceasefire and peace agreement to end the war in Ukraine.
However, no agreement was reached during the summit. Trump initially expressed his desire for a ceasefire, saying he wouldn’t be happy if he left without securing one.
Yet, Trump and Putin failed to reach a ceasefire agreement, with Trump later stating that ceasefires “often times do not hold up”.
Trump emphasised the need for a comprehensive peace deal to formally end the war, rather than a temporary ceasefire.
Despite no agreement being reached, Trump described the meeting as “extremely productive” and rated it “10 out of 10”, noting minor unresolved points.
On his part, Putin expressed his sincere interest in ending the conflict, but emphasised that underlying issues needed to be addressed first.
Many Ukrainians expressed anger at the warm reception for Putin, feeling crushed by Trump’s approach.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is set to meet with Trump in Washington, D.C. to discuss the war efforts and potential peace agreements.
Meanwhile,European leaders welcomed Trump’s efforts, stressing the need for strong security guarantees to protect Ukraine and Europe
