Man stabs lover to death over infidelity allegations in Rivers

A man simply identified as ‘Doctor’ allegedly stabbed his female lover to death over suspected infidelity in Port Harcourt.
The incident occurred at Okereke Street in Mile 1, where the suspect reportedly attacked his girlfriend, identified as Ima, during an argument on Sunday night.
Sources said the argument escalated after ‘Doctor’ accused the victim of being unfaithful, leading to the fatal stabbing.
The caretaker of the house, noticing the commotion, promptly alerted operatives of the Azikiwe Police Division in the area, resulting in the immediate arrest of the suspect.
Following the arrest, sympathisers and onlookers gathered outside the police station on Monday when the victim’s body was brought to the division. Shortly afterwards, police transferred the corpse to an undisclosed mortuary.
Confirming the incident, Rivers State Police Command spokesperson SP Grace Iringe-Koko said, “The suspect has been arrested and the Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Port Harcourt, for discreet probe.”
Human rights activist Prince Wiro, National Coordinator of the Centre for Basic Rights Protection and Accountability Campaign, condemned the act and called for a thorough investigation. He recounted:
“This morning while I was walking along Illabouchi, Mile 2, Diobu, Port Harcourt, I saw a crowd of people at the Azikiwe Police Division, and when I enquired what happened, I was told that the police arrested a man simply identified as Doctor for allegedly killing his female lover at Okereke Street. While we were there, the corpse of the lady was taken to an undisclosed mortuary while the suspect has been detained.”
He urged authorities to ensure justice is served, saying: “We are calling on the police to ensure a thorough and unbiased investigation with a view to serving justice on the matter.”
Prince Wiro also advised young people on relationships, warning: “Toxic relationships are not what you should endure. People should walk away from toxic relationships. There is no relationship more important than your life; you cannot be in a toxic relationship at the expense of your life.”
