Sen. Akpabio dismisses health rumours

Nigerian Senate President, Godswill Akpabio has returned to Abuja, dismissing rumours of critical illness and hospitalisation in London.
Senator Akpabio arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport at 4 a.m. on Monday, where he was welcomed by senators, aides, and supporters.
Akpabio returned to Nigeria after a brief vacation in London, putting to rest speculation about his health.
Speaking to journalists, Akpabio said, “There’s nothing like such. I’m fit as a fiddle. I only stopped over in London for a short vacation.”
Before his trip to London, Akpabio attended the sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament in Geneva, held from July 29 to 31, 2025.
Akpabio assured Nigerians of “robust legislative engagements” when the Senate resumes from recess.
Recall that Senator Gbenga Daniel, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Navy, had earlier dismissed claims of Akpabio’s illness during a meeting in London.
Social media was rife with speculation about Akpabio’s health, with some claiming he was critically ill and hospitalised in London.
Akpabio’s return and statement have reassured Nigerians about his health and commitment to his duties as Senate President .
