Former Super Eagles forward Ideye retires from professional football

Brown Ideye, a former Super Eagles forward, has announced his retirement from professional football after a successful career spanning over a decade.
The 36-year-old forward shared the news on social media on Tuesday, expressing mixed emotions about his decision.
Ideye expressed deep gratitude to everyone who played a role in his football journey, including agents, sports journalists, coaches, teammates, and fans.
He reflected on the game giving him “incredible joy, sad days, the opportunity to travel and see the world, lifelong friendships, and so many unforgettable memories.”
Ideye’s retirement closes a remarkable chapter in Nigerian football, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, resilience, and success that will inspire the next generation of players.
Though stepping away from professional football, Ideye promised that the sport would always remain part of his life as he looks forward to the next chapter.
Ideye was part of the Super Eagles squad that won the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in South Africa under the late coach Stephen Keshi.
He played for top clubs across Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, including Dynamo Kyiv, West Bromwich Albion, and Olympiakos.
Ideye won titles and scored memorable goals, becoming a respected figure in Nigerian football.
