Benue Assembly suspends 4 lawmakers over attempt to impeach speaker

The Benue State House of Assembly has suspended four of its members for six months over an alleged attempt to impeach the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Aondona Dajoh.
The suspended lawmakers are Hon. Alfred Berger, representing Makurdi North; Hon. Terna Shimawua, representing Kian; Hon. Cyril Ekong, representing Obi; and Hon. James Umoru, representing Apa state constituency.
The suspension followed a motion of urgent importance moved by the Majority Leader, Hon. Saater Tiseer, who accused the lawmakers of attempting to unsettle the Assembly with a needless crisis.
The Speaker directed the Sergeant at Arms to lead the suspended lawmakers out of the chambers.
Following the suspension, the Speaker appointed Hon. Audu Elias as the new Spokesperson of the House, replacing Hon. Alfred Berger, who had previously held the position.
The suspension of the four lawmakers has significant implications for the Benue State House of Assembly and its operations.
It also highlighted the internal conflicts within the Assembly and the challenges faced by the leadership in maintaining stability and order.
