Tinubu pledges to boost local arms production to combat insurgency

President Bola Tinubu has announced plans to accelerate local production of arms and ammunition in Nigeria to enhance the country’s security architecture.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony of Course 33 of the National Defence College on Friday in Abuja, Tinubu emphasised the importance of strengthening indigenous manufacturing of military hardware to reduce dependence on foreign suppliers and improve the nation’s fight against insecurity.
Represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, Tinubu stressed that local production of arms and ammunition was essential to the nation’s security and development.
He commended the National Defence College for its research excellence, particularly the Presidential Treaties on Harnessing Indigenous Manufacturing for Enhanced National Security and Development: Strategic Options for Nigeria by 2040.
The President directed relevant stakeholders to study the recommendations and harvest the strategies proposed.
President Tinubu also reiterated his administration’s commitment to completing the construction of the National Defence College’s permanent site in Piwoyi.
Tinubu directed the Commandant to work closely with the Minister of Defence to develop a clear strategy to upgrade the facilities and enhance the infrastructure.
The president emphasised the importance of strong institutions in national security and development.
He noted that his administration has made institutional strengthening a national priority, with a focus on upholding the rule of law, safeguarding citizens’ rights, promoting accountability, and delivering essential services.
According to him, “In development, they ensure sound governance, effective planning, and the delivery of policies that serve the common good.
”This is why this administration has made institutional strengthening a national priority, and I trust that the knowledge you have acquired here will be deployed to fortify the institutions of Nigeria and of your respective nations, ” he said.
Tinubu highlighted the progress made in the nation’s economy, citing the growth of the stock market and increased investor confidence.
He however, acknowledged the need to continue tackling inflation and food insecurity to ensure that economic growth translates into real prosperity for every Nigerian.
The President implored the Course 33 graduands to join hands in delivering his administration’s renewed hope to Nigerians.
He emphasised the importance of strong institutions and effective leadership in achieving national security and development.
