Taraba deputy governor returns to duty after month absence

Taraba State Deputy Governor, Aminu Alkali, has resumed his official duties after a prolonged absence of nine months due to health challenges.
A video clip shared on social media shows Alkali seated in his office, reviewing files alongside his aides.
Alkali had been undergoing medical treatment since November 2024, after suffering a stroke that affected his ability to speak.
He received treatment in Abuja and was later moved to Cairo, Egypt, for further medical checks.
Governor Agbu Kefas assured residents that Alkali’s absence was due to health reasons and not a power struggle.
During Alkali’s absence, the governor’s deputy chief of staff, Emmanuel Lawson, was assigned to oversee some responsibilities in Alkali’s office, sparking controversy and speculation about a potential replacement.
Governor Kefas clarified that the arrangement was a temporary administrative oversight to ensure effective governance and service delivery, emphasising that he had no hidden agenda in handling Alkali’s health issues.
The news of Alkali’s return has been met with relief and optimism, with many residents expressing hope that his resumption would bring stability to the state’s governance.
The state government urged residents to sympathise with Alkali’s health condition, emphasising that illness could affect anyone and that the government was working to ensure his full recovery.
