Champions league final gets earlier kickoff as UEFA shifts match time

The Union of Europian Football Associations, UEFA, has announced a change to the Champions League final schedule, moving the kickoff time from 9 p.m. CET to 6 p.m. CET starting from the 2026 season.
The new timing aimed to enhance the match-day experience for supporters, making the event more accessible, inclusive, and impactful for everyone involved.
The kickoff ensured an earlier finish, regardless of extra time or penalties, allowing fans to enjoy the rest of their evening with friends and family while avoiding late-night transportation issues.
The new schedule time would enables families with younger children to attend the match, making it more feasible for day trips and reducing travel stress.
The change is expected to benefit broadcasters, allowing younger viewers and global audiences to tune in more easily, particularly in regions like Asia and North America.
While some fans praise the move for making matches more accessible, others lament the loss of the traditional nighttime atmosphere, fearing it might take away part of the mystique of Europe’s most prestigious club final.
Football Supporters Europe’s Executive Director, Ronan Evain, welcomed the decision, saying that an earlier kickoff made day trips more feasible and reduces travel stress.
