Trump revokes Kamala Harris’s Secret Service protection effective Sept. 1

The Trump administration has withdrawn former Vice President Kamala Harris’ Secret Service security protection, effective September 1, 2025, a White House official said Friday.
The decision terminated an extension approved by then-President Joe Biden, which would have lasted until July 2026. Harris’s standard six-month protection period as former Vice President ended on July 21.
A senior Harris aide while speaking with AFP, expressed gratitude to the Secret Service, saying Harris appreciates their “professionalism, dedication, and unwavering commitment to safety”.
Despite losing Secret Service protection, Harris is set to embark on a nationwide book tour to promote her memoir, “107 Days”, which offers a behind-the-scenes look at her presidential campaign.
“107 Days” is scheduled for release on September 23 in the United States, published by Simon & Schuster.
Harris claimed to have written the book with “candor and reflection”, providing insights into her short presidential run against Trump.
The move is part of a broader pattern of Trump taking measures against perceived enemies and political opponents.
Critics, including Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, viewed the decision as “another act of revenge” by Trump.
Bass pledged to work with the Governor to ensure Harris’s safety in Los Angeles.
Without Secret Service protection, Harris might need to rely on private security arrangements, which could be costly.
The decision has sparked debate, especially given Trump’s recent emphasis on security for current officials following an assassination attempt he survived.
