Gov. Okpebholo rescues 10 accident victims on Benin-Auchi highway

Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo, personally intervened in rescuing more than 10 victims of a fatal road accident along the Benin-Auchi highway on Saturday, August 30, 2025.
The governor, who was en route to Irrua in the Esan Central Local Government Area of the state, encountered a heavy gridlock after the bypass and immediately alighted to assess the situation.
Upon arrival at the accident scene, Governor Okpebholo met several victims in critical condition, many bleeding profusely, while bystanders stood helplessly.
Moved by their plight, he directed his aides to deploy two of his security Hilux vehicles to evacuate the victims to a nearby medical facility.
The governor personally supervised the rescue effort, ensuring the injured, including a woman with severe wounds, were carried into the vehicles for urgent treatment
Eyewitnesses recounted that the accident occurred when the driver of a white Toyota Venza, with registration number ABUJA GWA 50 AW, drove against traffic, resulting in a collision involving four vehicles: three commercial mini buses loaded with passengers and the Venza.
The impact left scores injured and caused a major traffic standstill
The governor’s swift action drew applause from motorists, residents, and sympathisers, many of whom hailed him as a humane and God-fearing leader who places the sanctity of life above all else.
An eyewitness remarked, “Before the governor arrived, people were only taking pictures and videos. But he came, took charge, and ensured the victims were rescued.
”This is the kind of leader we need; one who leads with compassion and action”, he added.
