Dangote Group mourns death of Phyna’s sister, Ruth, after truck accident

The Dangote Group has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Ruth Otabor, sister of Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner Phyna, who died after a road accident involving one of the company’s trucks in Auchi, Edo State.
Ruth Otabor was hit by a Dangote truck near Auchi Polytechnic on August 13, 2025, just six days after graduating from the institution.
The accident resulted in severe injuries, including damage to both legs, one of which was amputated.
Despite efforts to save her life, Ruth succumbed to her injuries on August 31, 2025, at about 6:30 a.m.
In a statement on Sunday, Aug. 32, by management of Dangote Group, expressed condolences to Ruth’s family, friends, and loved ones.
The management described the loss as a moment of profound grief.
“On behalf of the entire Dangote Group, we extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and loved ones at this difficult time,” the company said.
The company disclosed that it had been supporting Ruth and her family since the accident, covering medical expenses and providing financial assistance.
”Plans had been made to fly Ruth to India for advanced treatment, but unfortunately, she passed away before the process could be completed.
“Sadly, despite these efforts and Ruth’s brave fight to live, we lost her today. May God grant her mercy and eternal rest”, the statement said.
Dangote Group emphasised its commitment to safety, accountability, and compassion, assuring the public that it would continue to strengthen its safety systems to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
Meanwhile, the family of Ruth Otabor has requested privacy as they mourn their loss, with funeral arrangements to be communicated later.
