Oborevwori assures support for federal university of medical and health sciences

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the successful establishment of the Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences in Kwale.
The governor made this promise during a meeting with the institution’s Governing Council and Management team, led by the Chairman and Pro-Chancellor, Dr. Salisu Banye, at the Government House in Asaba on Tuesday.
Oborevwori described the university as a legacy project that would enhance access to quality education and healthcare delivery in the state.
He urged the pioneers of the institution to work hard, be committed, and dedicated to putting the university on a solid foundation.
“As pioneers, you carry the heavy responsibility of putting this university on a solid footing.
”The task ahead demands sacrifice, hard work, commitment, dedication, resourcefulness, and selflessness.
”I am impressed with the progress you have made so far, and I encourage you to sustain the momentum,” he said.
The governor assured the university’s management team of his administration’s continued support, including providing necessary infrastructure and logistics to ensure the institution’s smooth take-off.
He revealed that his government had already approved the use of the General Hospital in Kwale as a take-off point for the Teaching Hospital and was working to extend electricity supply to the university’s campus.
Oborevwori also highlighted the importance of the university in providing more opportunities for the state’s children to access quality education, particularly in the medical field.
He cited the state’s reputation as an education hub, noting the recent global debate award won by public school students in Doha, Qatar, as evidence of the state’s investment in quality education.
Oborevwori promised to provide a 30-seater bus to the university to facilitate transportation for students and staff.
Earlier, the Pro-Chancellor, Dr. Salisu Banye, expressed gratitude to the governor for his unwavering support and described the establishment of the university as a landmark achievement for both the state and the country.
Banye appealed for more government assistance to meet critical accreditation requirements and support for infrastructure development.
”Your interventions, including the provision of classrooms, laboratories, offices, and 200 hectares of land for the permanent site, reflect your passion for infrastructure, quality education, and healthcare.
“This university will not only produce generations of competent medical professionals but also strengthen healthcare delivery and contribute to socio-economic growth, ” he said.
The Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences, Kwale, was established on March 6, 2023, and is currently preparing for the National Universities Commission (NUC) resource verification, which would enable it to admit students into Medicine and Allied Health Sciences programs.
