Tinubu’s Govt to solve 80% of judges’ housing problem – edited

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has assured that President Bola Tinubu’s administration would address 80 per cent of the housing problems facing judges in Nigeria before the end of his first tenure in 2027.
Wike made this commitment during the commissioning of a magistrates’ court in Abuja on Tuesday.
Wike also announced that the FCT High Court would receive 50 units of duplexes, with 20 units to be handed over in October 2025 and 30 units in June 2026.
He further emphasised that the housing crisis faced by judges was a major concern, with some living in rented apartments and at the mercy of landlords.
Wike stated, “Sometimes, you go out and see where justices are living as tenants. Their landlords can use their cars and block the gate and say, ‘Look, they have not paid us. Go away”.
The FCT Minister highlighted the importance of providing judges with a conducive living and working environment to facilitate the quick dispensation of justice.
He noted that the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) was responsible for constructing public buildings in Abuja, including those for the judiciary.
Wike emphasised that President Tinubu was determined to create an enabling environment for the judiciary, stating, “You cannot talk about fighting corruption if you do not provide the right environment for judges and magistrates, or take care of their welfare.”
