Kwankwaso still open to joining APC, says Jibrin

A member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Abdulmumin Jibrin, has revealed that former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, is still open to joining the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Hon. Jibrin, a chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), made this known on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, saying the doors have not closed for Kwankwaso to team up with President Bola Tinubu in the APC.
According to Jibrin, Kwankwaso has maintained that his doors are open for discussions, and everything is a possibility.
When asked what may be stalling Kwankwaso’s movement into the APC, Jibrin suggested that vested interests within the Kano APC might resist their entry, particularly those eyeing governorship ambitions.
Jibrin noted that some APC members in Kano might not want Kwankwaso to join the party due to personal interests, such as gubernatorial aspirations.
Jibrin emphasised that the Kwankwasiyya Movement, led by Kwankwaso, is a strong group that cannot be pushed aside in Nigeria’s political permutations.
When asked if he would follow Kwankwaso if he leaves the NNPP, Jibrin said he’s old enough to make his own decisions.
“Well, I keep saying everything is a possibility,” he added, without affirming his own defection to the APC.

The lawmaker has been an ally of President Tinubu and had visited him several times, sparking rumours that the House of Representatives member may dump the NNPP.

During the show, Jibrin did not affirm he is joining the APC.

Kwankwaso scored 1,496,687 total votes and came fourth in the presidential election, while President Tinubu won with 8,794,726 votes in 2023 general elections.
