ADC alleges FG of using security agencies to intimidate opposition leaders

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused the Federal Government of using security operatives to intimidate opponents, specifically targeting the party’s leaders and members.
The accusation comes after the Kaduna State Police Command summoned former Governor Nasir El-Rufai and other ADC leaders over alleged public disturbance.
The police invitation, dated September 4, 2025, directed former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai and other party members to report to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) on September 8, 2025, to clarify allegations reported against them by complainants.
Those summoned alongside El Rufai included Bashir Sa’idu, Jafaru Sani, Ubaidullah Mohammed (aka “30”), Nasiru Maikano, Aminu Abita, and Ahmed Rufa’i Hussaini (aka “Mikiya”).
In a statement on Friday, ADC spokesman, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, faulted the police summons, describing it as a coordinated effort to stifle opposition politics in areas where the ruling party felt threatened by the ADC’s rising influence.
Accordingto Abdullahi”In this regard, the ADC calls on the Federal Government and the Inspector General of Police to immediately withdraw the politically motivated summons issued to Nasir El-Rufai and other ADC leaders in Kaduna State.
‘:These invitations are not about justice or security; they are about silencing dissent and should therefore be halted without delay,” he added d.
The ADC also demanded that the police publish the names of those who filed complaints that triggered the investigations and summons.
“The public deserves to know who is behind these attacks on political freedom, and what interests they serve,” Abdullahi said.
The party further urged the security agencies to arrest and prosecute those responsible for the attack on Abubakar Malami’s convoy in Kebbi State and the violent thugs who disrupted their stakeholders’ meeting in Kaduna.
“The failure to bring these perpetrators to justice only emboldens further violence,” the ADC said.
The party assured its leaders and members that it would stand with them and not be intimidated.
“Our party will stand with our leaders and members. We will not be intimidated,” the ADC said.
