Ronaldo’s record-breaking goal helps Portugal thrash Armenia 5-0

Portugal kicked off their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign with a resounding 5-0 victory over Armenia in Yerevan.
The match marked Portugal’s first game since the tragic death of Liverpool forward Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva in a car accident. The team observed a minute’s silence before the match to pay tribute.
The 40-year-old superstar scored two goals, including a sizzling shot from a distance in the second half, bringing his record international tally to 140 goals.
Ronaldo’s new teammate at Al Nassr scored a brace, with his second goal coming from a clever back-heel in the 61st minute.
Cancelo scored a goal and marked it by pointing to the skies with both hands in memory of Jota’s goal celebration.
Portugal’s win puts them at the top of Group F.
Meanwhile, England extended their unbeaten run in Group K to four matches with a 2-0 win over Andorra, thanks to Christian Garcia’s own goal and Declan Rice’s header.
However, their display was deemed uninspiring by many.
Also, Republic of Ireland and Hungary, will face off in a late fixture of Group F.
Serbia edged Latvia 1-0, putting them second in Group K with seven points.
