Ibas visits presidential villa amid calls for accountability

Retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, the former sole administrator of Rivers State, visited the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Wednesday.
The visit comes amid calls for him to give an account of his six-month rule in Rivers State.
Ibas was appointed as the sole administrator of Rivers State by President Bola Tinubu after the state was placed under emergency rule due to a political crisis.
The emergency rule lasted for six months, after which President Tinubu reinstated the suspended state governor, Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and the state House of Assembly members to office.
The Rivers State House of Assembly has announced plans to investigate the state’s expenditure under Ibas’ administration during the six months of emergency rule.
Senior lawyer Ebun Adegboruwa, SAN, has also called on President Tinubu and the National Assembly to render to Nigerians a report of the activities of Ibas.
Similarly, Niger Delta rights activist Ann-Kio Briggs has urged Ibas to account for the funds spent during his tenure as administrator.
Ibas arrived at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Wednesday, accompanied by Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede.
The purpose of the visit was not yet clear, but it comes at a time when there are growing calls for Ibas to be held accountable for his actions during his tenure as administrator of Rivers State.
