Obasanjo advises Ladoja to maintain distinction between traditional, political roles

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has congratulated Abdul-Rasheed Ladoja, the 44th Olubadan of Ibadan designate, ahead of his coronation ceremony scheduled for Friday.
Chief Obasanjo advised Ladoja to maintain a distinction between traditional and political roles, emphasising that humility, patience, divine wisdom, and tolerance are essential qualities for success in the exalted position.
Obasanjo also urged Ladoja to avoid mixing traditional rulership with political interests, stressing that these are two distinct realms.
He further highlighted the need for humility, patience, divine wisdom, and tolerance to navigate the complexities of traditional leadership.
Obasanjo offered a Yoruba royal blessing, “Ade a pe lori, bata a pe lese,” which translates to “May the crown endure on your head, and may your shoes last long on your feet”.
The coronation ceremony is set for Friday and would be attended by President Bola Tinubu, prominent Yoruba monarchs, and other dignitaries.
As a former Oyo State governor, Ladoja brings significant experience to his new role as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.
The Olubadan throne follows a rotational system between the Egbe Agba (civil line) and the Balogun (military line), ensuring a transparent and orderly succession process.
The Olubadan is a revered institution in Ibadan, playing a central role in mediating between modern governance, community development, and cultural preservation.
