Gov. Fubara intervention ends strike at Emohua LG

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers, has successfully intervened in a dispute between Emohua Local Government workers and Council Chairman Chidi Lloyd, bringing an end to an industrial action that commenced on Tuesday.
The strike, which led to the locking of 23 council secretariats across the state, was sparked by a rift between the workers and Lloyd.
The disagreement arose when Lloyd reportedly refused to pay some staff members, citing incomplete verification processes.
This led to protests along the Emohua axis of the East-West Road and prompted the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) to declare a statewide strike action.
Fubara convened a closed-door meeting with NULGE leadership, the Local Government Service Commission, and Lloyd to resolve the issue.
Following the meeting, the parties announced that the governor had directed them to resolve their differences amicably.
In a joint press briefing after the meeting on Tuesday, in Government House, Port Harcourt, the Chairman of Local Government Service Commission, Israel Amadi, Emohua chairman and President of Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, Rivers State Council, Clifford Paul commended Governor Fubara for his intervention and assured that they will comply with his directive to ensure that the disputes were harmoniously resolved.
According to the chairman of the Local Government Service Commission, Amadi, “His Excellency has given his mandate and we want to use this opportunity to thank him for intervening.
”And we hope that everything that we have discussed and resolved will be implemented as we also thank NULGE for their collaboration and cooperation.”
Chidi Lloyd appreciated the governor’s timely intervention, emphasizing the importance of transparency in the system.
He thanked NULGE for calling off the strike and expressed commitment to working together to implement the agreed-upon resolutions.
Mr Israel Amadi, Chairman of the Local Government Service Commission, commended the governor’s intervention and expressed confidence that the resolutions would be implemented.
