NASS tightens security around Akpabio’s office

The National Assembly has introduced new security measures restricting movement around the office of Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
According to a memo dated October 2, 2025, and signed by the Sergeant-at-Arms, Etido Ekpo, the corridor linking the White House lobby to the Senate President’s office will be reserved exclusively for senators and members of the House of Representatives.
Ekpo also explained that aides and personal assistants would no longer be permitted access to the passage.
The memo requested that senators disseminate this information to their aides and personal assistants.
“You are kindly requested to disseminate this information to distinguished senators who would in turn intimate their aides or personal assistants as appropriate,” the memo stated.
Ekpo, a retired brigadier-general, stated that the restrictions aimed to ensure a “secure and safe environment” for legislative duties.
While the exact reason behind the restrictions was not explicitly stated, the National Assembly’s decision is likely aimed at enhancing security measures within the complex.
The move comes ahead of the National Assembly’s plenary resumption on October 7, after a recess of more than two months.
