Abia reaping benefits of subsidy removal — Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has said that the removal of fuel subsidy is yielding positive results in Abia State and other parts of Nigeria, enabling state governments to execute key development projects.

President Tinubu made this known during a one-day official visit on Friday to Abia State, represented by Minister of Works, Dave Umahi.

The President’s decision to remove the fuel subsidy, announced during his inauguration speech on May 29, 2023, has been defended by Tinubu as a necessary step to free up fiscal space and redirect national resources to sectors benefiting the broader population.

Funds saved from the subsidy removal are being channeled into critical infrastructure renewal and social safety nets.

Tinubu expressed his commitment to working with Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, to ensure the state fully reclaimed its potential.

According to him, “The removal of the fuel subsidy is gaining momentum projects, and we are beginning to see the benefits here in Abia State.

“The same progress is being experienced in other states across Nigeria. I am committed to working with your governor to ensure that Abia State fully reclaims its potential, ” Tinubu further said.

Meanwhile, Governor Otti expressed confidence that Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), would soon regain his freedom.

“I can assure you that I am engaging with Mr. President. He is favourably disposed to it, and I am sure that in no distant future, Nnamdi Kanu will regain his freedom,” Otti said.
