Obasanjo urges critical strategy against terrorism

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has called for more critical discussions to proffer solutions to the Boko Haram menace in Nigeria.
Speaking at the unveiling of the book, “Scars: Nigeria’s Journey and the Boko Haram Conundrum,” authored by former Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor, on Friday in Abuja, Obasanjo expressed concern that the insurgency had become a monster.
Obasanjo noted that Boko Haram had become virtually part of Nigerian life, and that the country needed to ask itself the necessary questions to deal with the menace.
“Boko Haram is now virtually becoming part of our life. Should we accept that? If we should not accept it, what should we do?
“I think we have to ask ourselves the necessary questions to be able to deal with this thing that is now becoming a monster within our country, ” he said.
He called for more critical discussions to proffer solutions to the Boko Haram insurgency, saying that Nigerians needed to be more proactive in addressing the issue.
Obasanjo praised General Irabor for sharing his insider experience in the war against terrorism in the book, saying that it showed courage and dedication to the nation’s security.
The book launch was attended by several notable figures, including former President Goodluck Jonathan, service chiefs, former and serving governors, and clerics.
The event highlighted the need for a multi-faceted approach to addressing the Boko Haram insurgency and promoting peace and security in Nigeria.
