Atiku accuses Tinubu of prioritising political visit to unsecure States

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has criticised President Bola Tinubu for attending the funeral of the mother of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman, Professor Nantawe Yilwatda, in Plateau State.

Atiku expressed disappointment that Tinubu overlooked victims of insecurity in the affected regions, opting instead to attend what he termed a “political funeral”.

In a post on his X handle, Atiku expressed disappointment that President Tinubu overlooked victims of insecurity in the affected regions, opting instead to attend what he termed a “political funeral.”

“With large swathes of the country still under siege from unrelenting insecurity and thousands of innocent lives lost, it is deeply unfortunate that President Bola Tinubu has not, for once, found it worthy to visit any of the affected states to commiserate with the grieving citizens.

“Today, however, the President suddenly remembered Plateau State, one of the most terrorized parts of the North Central, not to share in the people’s pain, but to attend a social event under the auspices of his party’s national chairman, ” he said.

Atiku accused Tinubu of lacking empathy for victims of insecurity, stating that the President’s attendance at the funeral reflects a “heartless exhibition of disregard for empathy, compassion, and the dignity of human life”.

He noted that the North Central region has endured horrific waves of violence, yet the APC-led government has not deemed it necessary to physically stand by the victims or console their families.

The former Vice President questioned Tinubu’s priorities, saying that while families in Plateau continue to bury their loved ones, the President chose to attend a social event under the auspices of his party’s national chairman.

“This is a President who would rather feast than feel a leader who finds pleasure where the people find pain,” Atiku said, adding that the Nigerian people were watching and would remember.

Atiku also recalled Tinubu’s visit to Benue State in June, where he allegedly failed to visit the epicentre of a massacre in Yelewata.

Instead, Tinubu ended his trip in Makurdi, turning his back on the people affected by the violence.

Atiku’s criticism highlighted the need for effective leadership in addressing the insecurity crisis in Nigeria.

As the country grapples with violence and terrorism, citizens are demanding more action from their leaders to ensure their safety and security.
