Fegocowosa-Lagos promotes unity through sports carnival

Winners at the 2025 Fegocowosa Sports and Family Fun Day held at the Tafawa Balewa Square Cricket pitch
Old students of the Federal Government College, Warri (Fegocowosa), Lagos branch, on Saturday reaffirmed the role of sports in strengthening bonds among members.
Members gathered at the Tafawa Balewa Square Cricket Pitch to mark the ninth Fegocowosa Sports Carnival and Family Fun Day.
Participants competed in football, athletics, table tennis, and board games such as chess, scrabble, and ludo, alongside fun races like sack and egg races.
Chairman of Fegocowosa, Sanya Otuyalo, described the event as a continuation of the branch’s longstanding tradition of unity through sports and shared values.
He said the gathering provided an avenue for members to reconnect, relive memories, and strengthen camaraderie in a relaxed and festive atmosphere.
Otuyalo noted that members were encouraged to bring their families, adding that the children’s section featured slides, face painting, and popcorn.
He congratulated Independence House for emerging champions and urged other houses to strategise for next year’s edition.
Fegocowosa Secretary-General, Omuaro Eru, emphasised that sports foster fitness and emotional well-being, which is why it remains central to the association’s activities.
Eru said the event included new additions like a bouncing castle and a kids’ corner to create an inclusive atmosphere for families.
She added that while the Lagos branch hosted the event, members from other states, including Abuja, also participated, reflecting the unity of purpose.
Eru highlighted the health benefits of the carnival, saying she had recorded over 20,000 steps during the activities.
Independence House emerged overall winners, followed by Unity and National Houses in second and third positions respectively.
Games Captain of Independence House, Festus Dike, expressed delight over the victory and pledged to defend their title in the next edition.
