Minister resigns over certificate scandal

The Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, has resigned from President Bola Tinubu’s government amidst controversy surrounding his academic credentials.
Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga confirmed Nnaji’s resignation in a statement on Tuesday.
Nnaji’s resignation followed allegations that he forged his University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificates.
According to reports, Nnaji claimed to have graduated from UNN in 1975, but the institution allegedly could not authenticate his academic credentials.
A two-year investigation by Premium Times found that Nnaji allegedly forged the credentials he submitted to President Tinubu and the Nigerian Senate during his ministerial confirmation.
The investigation also claimed that Nnaji did not complete his university education and that both the bachelor’s degree and NYSC certificate he presented were forged.
The Vice-Chancellor of UNN, Simon Ortuanya, reportedly stated that Nnaji was admitted to the institution in 1981 but did not complete his studies and was never awarded a degree.
Authorities at the NYSC also confirmed that the certificate of national service being paraded by Nnaji was strange to them and could not be authenticated.
President Bola Tinubu accepted Nnaji’s resignation, following the allegations against him.
Nnaji’s resignation marked a significant development in the ongoing controversy surrounding his academic credentials.
