TotalEnergies supports Nigerian students with educational initiatives.

TotalEnergies EP Nigeria Limited has reaffirmed its commitment to education and youth development in areas of its coverage and Nigeria at large.

The oil giant organised a book reading competition and open day event for Senior Secondary Schools Students in Rivers State.

At the event held at TotalEnergies office in Port Harcourt, the Deputy Managing Director, Joint Venture Asset, TotalEnergies, Mr. Olivier Cassassoles, emphasised the importance of reading in nurturing minds capable of empathy, creativity, and critical thinking.

He stated that TotalEnergies had been passionate about education for over 60 years and has invested significantly in initiatives that promote quality education.

Cassassoles highlighted some of the company’s initiatives, including the Institute of Petroleum and Energy Studies (IPES), which connects academic theory with practical industry skills, and the Empowering the Teachers (ETT) Fellowship Programme, which offers African university lecturers advanced training opportunities at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

He noted that more than 30,000 youths have received community scholarships, and more than 39,000 have been awarded through the National Merit Scholarships Scheme since 2003.

The TotalEnergies boss urged students to engage with the books they read, emphasising that it is a gateway to endless possibilities, the passport to success, and personal and professional development.

He advised students to be inspired by “The Potter’s Wheel” and assured them that TotalEnergies was delighted to invest in education to support students and youths in unlocking their potential.

Other speakers at the event included the General Manager Country Services, TotalEnergies, Adesua Adewole, who emphasised the importance of reading in empowering students, and the Permanent Secretary, Rivers State Ministry of Education, Dr. Azibaolalare Uzoma-Wogu, who commended TotalEnergies for their contributions to education in the state.
