APC picks consensus candidate for Ekiti governorship race

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has adopted the consensus mode for its forthcoming Ekiti State Governorship Primary Election, following the voluntary withdrawal of one of the two cleared aspirants.
APC National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Felix Morka, announced the development in a statement issued Tuesday in Abuja.
Morka said the party’s shifted from direct to consensus primary was prompted by the withdrawal of Mrs. Atinuke Omolayo, who endorsed incumbent Governor Biodun Oyebanji as the party’s consensus candidate.
In a letter to the party leadership, Omolayo confirmed her withdrawal and expressed full support for any nomination process adopted in line with the 2022 Electoral Act and the APC Constitution.
Her withdrawal and endorsement have been formally communicated to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Morka added.
According to Morka, the party has met the requirements outlined in Sections 84(9) and 84(11) of the Electoral Act 2022, which allow for a consensus primary.
He disclosed that the delegate congress would be held on Saturday, October 19, while the delegate congress appeal is scheduled for October 26, and a special nomination congress to ratify the consensus candidate would take place on October 27.
Morka praised Omolayo for her sportsmanship, describing her move as a demonstration of commitment to party unity and progress.
He called on all APC leaders and members in Ekiti State to remain united and work together to secure victory in the June 2026 governorship election.
