Mbah seeks political solution to Nnamdi Kanu’s detention

Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu, has renewed calls for a political resolution to the continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), who has been in custody since his extradition from Kenya in 2021.

Governir Mbah made the remarks during a statewide broadcast on Tuesday, shortly after announcing his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Hus eirds: “It took barely a week after I assumed office that I met with the President and raised the issue of Nnamdi Kanu.

‘“I believe strongly that the Nnamdi Kanu problem is going to be solved politically, ” he added.

Mbah also urged political and community leaders in the South-East to rally behind the push for a political solution, describing it as the most viable path forward.

“First, we must accept that this is the right direction. The details can be worked out, but we need to align and speak with one voice before approaching the federal government”, he said.

The governor emphasised that resolving the issue through dialogue could help stabilize the region and foster national unity.

Nnamdi Kanu has remained in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) despite several court rulings granting him bail.

Kanu is currently facing a seven-count charge related to alleged terrorism.

His continued detention has sparked criticism from prominent figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who recently described it as “an open sore on our nation’s conscience” and demanded his immediate release.
