Customs officer completes solo Nigeria–Belgium bike journey

In a historic and inspiring feat, Akpevwe Ogboru, a female officer of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), has successfully completed a 72-day solo motorbike journey from Nigeria to Belgium and back, becoming the first female Customs officer to accomplish such a cross-continental expedition.

Ogboru embarked on the journey on August 1, 2025, and returned on October 11, covering 22 countries across Africa and Europe.

Her arrival at the Seme-Krake Joint Border Post was met with celebrations from senior customs officials, including Comptroller Wale Adenuga and other Area Controllers from Zone A.

Beaming with pride and gratitude, Ogboru recounted the challenges and triumphs of her extraordinary journey.

“It’s been 72 days in 22 countries, and I’m happy to be finally back.

“Every time I move, I move with positivity. When challenges came, I prayed about them, ” she said.

Nicknamed “Rocky,” her motorcycle became a symbol of resilience throughout the demanding journey.

Ogboru said her mission was not only personal but deeply symbolic aimed at promoting women’s empowerment and girl-child inclusivity.

“This ride was for women’s inclusivity and the empowerment of the girl-child.

”I want every woman to know: don’t be discouraged. Whatever you set your mind to do, go for it, ” she said.

Ogboru emphasised that fear often comes from listening to naysayers and that positivity was her anchor through adversity.

According to her, when you allow fear in, it cripples you. But when you move with positivity, everything moves smoothly.

Ogboru also expressed hopes that her journey would foster better Africa–Europe relations, noting the mutual learning opportunities and potential for cross-continental collaboration.

“My prayer is that this ride brings about positivity and meaningful impact. Africa and Europe can do better—we have much to learn from each other, ” she said.

At the border ceremony, Comptroller Adenuga praised Ogboru’s courage and determination, highlighting her as a role model and a reflection of visionary leadership within the Nigeria Customs Service.

>M“This is a bold achievement. She was discouraged by many, but she stayed focused.

The CGC supported her and that shows leadership that believes in inclusivity and empowerment,” he said.

Adenuga added that her journey did not only elevated the image of the Customs Service but also showcased Nigeria’s resilience and ambition on the global stage.

“With this feat, she has put Nigeria on the world map. I believe her achievement will inspire others and align with the CGC’s vision for improved trade facilitation, ” he added.

Ogboru’s feat has drawn admiration from across the Nigeria Customs Service and beyond, positioning her as a symbol of strength, ambition, and possibility for women in uniform and aspiring adventurers across Africa.
