Oborevwori challenges South-South APC leaders on digital membership registration

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta, has called on leaders and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) across the South-South region to actively participate in the ongoing digital membership registration exercise.

Governor Oborevwori described the initiative as a pivotal step towards modernizing the party’s structure for enhanced transparency, accountability, and inclusivity.

Oborevwori delivered the charge on Thursday at the APC E-Registration Hands-On Device/Application Train-the-Trainer Workshop for the South-South zone, held at the Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba.

Speaking during the event, Oborevwori revealed that Delta State has already made significant progress, having registered over 280,000 members as part of the digital drive, following directives from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The governor also explained that the current phase is focused on validating existing membership data by linking details to members’ National Identification Numbers (NIN) while also expanding the membership register to include new entrants.

According to him, “This two-day training is very important. It is an opportunity to deepen your understanding of the process so that when you return to your respective states, you will be able to train others effectively.

”For us in Delta, we have moved from the registration phase to validation. We are also accommodating new members and political groups merging into the APC to ensure proper documentation,” the governor stated.

Oborevwori further expressed confidence in the APC’s strength and unity across the South-South region, asserting that “there is no other strong political force in the region” aside from the ruling party.

He welcomed delegates from Edo, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom States and urged them to focus on the training to successfully replicate the digital registration process in their states.

In a goodwill message, the Deputy National Chairman (South) of the APC, Chief Emma Eneukwu, praised Governor Oborevwori for his “ebullient, purposeful and commitment-driven leadership,” noting the visible infrastructural transformation happening across Delta State.

Conveying the appreciation of the party’s National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, Eneukwu described Oborevwori’s achievements as “exemplary and reflective of visionary leadership.”

Chief Eneukwu also hailed the e-registration initiative as a landmark reform in Nigeria’s political landscape, aligning the party with global standards of transparency and organizational integrity.

“What we are launching today represents a new chapter in political organization which ensures that every member is digitally captured, verifiable, and accountable,” he said.

Deputy National Organising Secretary, Hon. Nze Chidi Duru, further emphasised the exercise as a unique reform aimed at enhancing accountability and strengthening internal democracy within the APC.

He remarked that the APC was making history as the first major political party in Nigeria to adopt a comprehensive digital membership system.

Earlier, State APC Chairman, Engr. Omeni Sobotie, commended Governor Oborevwori for providing exemplary leadership that has made Delta a benchmark for governance and development.

Describing the governor as “a rare gift to the South-South and the entire nation.

“With his performance, the APC is unstoppable and any party challenging it will run into a brick wall,” he said.

The workshop was attended by top APC leaders from across the South-South zone, including state chairmen, zonal coordinators, and other party stakeholders, who pledged to implement the training and ensure the successful rollout of the e-registration process in their respective states.
