Defectors will see the difference, return to PDP – Olabode George

Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olabode George, has vowed to remain loyal to the party despite the recent wave of defections to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking at a press conference in Lagos on Thursday, George declared that those who choose to leave the PDP are free to do so but warned they would eventually realize their mistake and return.
Reacting to the exodus of key members from the party in several states, Chief George insisted that the PDP remains the best political option for Nigeria’s unity, inclusion, and sustainable development.
George also described the party as the only one that offers genuine representation to all Nigerians, regardless of ethnic or minority status.
According to him, “Those who want to leave PDP can go. But those of us who remain will continue to speak up and work for the wellbeing of Nigerians, who are facing many challenges today.
“I am an irredeemable PDP man. This party is still the best solution to the problems of this country,” he said.
He added that many defectors are chasing political “crumbs” but would eventually return to the fold.
“Let them go wherever they want. They will see the difference, and as usual, some of them will come back. We wish them the best of luck,” he said.
George further highlighted the upcoming PDP National Convention, scheduled for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, as a crucial event aimed at restoring the party’s former strength and relevance.
He stressed that the PDP’s focus remains firmly on the Nigerian people and not on a few leaders who have abandoned principles and ideology.
On the electoral process, George urged the newly appointed Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Joash Amupitan, to conduct his duties with integrity and transparency.
“There will always be history,” George noted, adding that the name “Amupitan” means “history” in Yoruba, underscoring the importance of leaving a good legacy.
“No manipulation should be tolerated. No glitches or cheating. Let the will of the people prevail in all elections,” he asserted.
Addressing constitutional matters, George criticized the current Nigerian Constitution, describing it as flawed and military in nature.
He said it is unfair to many sections of the country and incapable of achieving the founding fathers’ vision for the nation.
“The constitution is not working as it should,” George said.
He called on the present leadership to implement the recommendations from the National Conference initiated by former President Goodluck Jonathan to address constitutional reforms.
