ADC criticises Wike over attack on Peter Obi’s school visit

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, for what it described as an “undignified” attack on Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

Wike had faulted Obi’s recent visit to a government-owned primary school in Abuja, where the former Anambra governor lamented the poor state of infrastructure and learning conditions.

In a statement on Friday, the ADC’s FCT Publicity Secretary, Chukwudi Samuel, said Wike’s reaction to Obi’s observations was unbecoming of a public official.

The party argued that Obi’s concerns should have inspired corrective action, not condemnation.

“Leadership is about service, not ego. If a citizen regardless of status points out governance failure, a responsible minister addresses it, not attacks the messenger,” the statement read.

The ADC also dismissed Wike’s comparison of his two-year tenure as FCT Minister to Obi’s eight years as governor of Anambra State as “laughable,” noting that Obi left behind billions in reserves and improved education and healthcare systems.
