INEC to test upgraded BVAS in Anambra ahead of governorship poll

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will on Saturday, October 25, conduct a mock accreditation exercise in Anambra State using its upgraded Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS).

According to a statement by Victoria Eta-Messi, Director of Voter Education and Publicity, the mock exercise will take place across selected polling units in Awka South, Idemili North, Oyi, Anambra East, Aguata, and Orumba North local government areas.

The exercise aimed to test the response time of the upgraded BVAS and assess the efficiency of real-time result uploads to the INEC Result Viewing (IReV) portal ahead of the upcoming November governorship election.

“The mock accreditation will help fine-tune our systems and ensure transparency and operational efficiency,” the statement read.

INEC also announced that Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) for newly registered voters would be available for collection between Wednesday, October 22 and Sunday, October 26.

Eligible voters are expected to collect their PVCs in person at the centres where they initially registered during the recent Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise.

The commission warned that proxy collection is strictly prohibited.

“All registered voters must collect their PVCs within the designated window to be eligible to vote,” INEC said.

As preparations intensify for the 2025 governorship election in Anambra, the commission reaffirmed its commitment to credible elections, urging voters to actively participate in the mock exercise to help test and improve the system.
