ADC cracks down on South-South vice chair for breach of party rules

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has suspended its National Vice Chairman (South-South), Dr. Usani Usani, over allegations of anti-party activities and conduct deemed detrimental to the party’s unity, image, and constitutional principles.
In a statement issued by the Cross River State chapter of the party and signed by its Publicity Secretary, James Otudor, the suspension was said to take immediate effect, following resolutions reached at a State Working Committee (SWC) meeting held on October 15, 2025, in Calabar.
“After extensive deliberations on several petitions and credible reports, the SWC found Dr. Usani guilty of engaging in anti-party activities, wilful insubordination, and actions capable of undermining the party’s cohesion and electoral viability,” the statement said.
The Cross River ADC noted that the decision aligned with the provisions of the party’s constitution and disciplinary code, and remained in force pending further investigations by the appropriate national party organs.
The statement emphasised that Usani’s recent utterances and behaviour contravened the ADC’s founding principles, particularly his alleged defiance of constituted authority and public comments deemed injurious to the party’s reputation across the South-South region.
“The actions and conduct of Dr. Usani were inconsistent with the ADC’s constitution and grossly detrimental to unity, discipline, and progress within Cross River State and the wider South-South geopolitical zone,” it added.
The SWC also expressed dissatisfaction with the appointment of Jackie Wayas as Deputy National Publicity Secretary, citing a lack of consultation with state leadership and concerns over her loyalty to party ideals.
“Her appointment does not reflect the best interests of ADC in Cross River.
Her loyalty appears skewed against the unity and growth of the party,” the statement read.
The committee called on the national leadership to review and replace Wayas with a “competent, credible, and media-savvy” individual with a verifiable track record of commitment to the party.
In a related development, the Cross River ADC raised alarm over individuals under a coalition movement who publicly declared their intention to join the ADC but failed to formalise their membership.
The party warned that it would not tolerate dual membership or allow its platform to be hijacked by individuals “pursuing multiple partisan interests.”
“All coalition leaders and intending members must complete the formalisation of their membership at the ward level within seven days, ending Saturday, 25 October 2025,” the statement warned.
Failure to comply, it added, would lead to exclusion from all leadership and decision-making roles within the party.
Dr. Usani Usani, a former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs and a prominent figure in Cross River politics, joined the ADC following a stint in the All Progressives Congress (APC).
His recent internal disagreements have sparked concern among party stakeholders over loyalty and ideological alignment.
